招聘信息: 弗吉尼亞大學生物物理和生理系 (University of Virginia, Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics) Dr. Huan Bao 課題組誠招全獎博士研究生, 博士后和訪問學者/學生 招聘方向和課題組簡介: protein engineering/structural biology/nanomedicine The Bao research group focuses on the membrane biology of cell communication (Bao et al., 2016, NSMB; Bao et al., 2018, Nature; Zhang et al. 2021, Nat Commun; Courtney et al., 2022 NSMB; Xiong et al., 2022 Cell; Shin et al., 2024 Nano Let; Ren et al., 2025 Nat Commun). Using a combination of biochemical reconstitution, cell biology and structural approaches, we seek to elucidate how membranes and membrane proteins regulate life and death. Based on the findings from our basic research, we are also interested in reprogramming membrane biology for therapeutic development against human disease. We strive to create a supportive environment that inspires learning, innovation, and passion for scientific discovery. People in the lab will have numerous opportunities to explore their own research interest. We emphasize rigorous training and open communication, and work as a team to tackle fundamental challenges in membrane biology. The lab is located in the Membrane Biology Center at the University of Virginia, with ample access to well-equipped imaging, flow cytometry and cryogenic electron microscopy cores in the same building. In addition, we are extensively collaborating with experts at UVA and across US to explore research and therapeutic applications of membrane biology. The lab is currently well-funded by multiple federal and private grants from NIH, AFAR, and CHRB. We are looking for 2-3 highly motivated postdocs/students in the following areas: 1) Structural membrane biology using cryoEM/ET; 2) Molecular mechanisms of membrane damage and repair; 3) Computational protein and peptide design; 4) Programming protein degradation and cell death; 5) Immune engineering with mRNA lipid nanoparticles against infections and cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Bao obtained his B.S. in Biological Science from Wuhan University and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of British Columbia. As a Human Frontier Science Program postdoctoral fellow, he investigated the molecular mechanism of synaptic transmission at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Bao has made fundamental contribution to our understanding of membrane transport, receptor signaling and exocytosis. His work has been recognized by the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Students Abroad, HFSP Career Development Award and NIH Director’s New Innovator Award.
