1979年諾貝爾獎(jiǎng)得主、美國(guó)物理學(xué)家謝爾登·格拉肖(sheldon lee glashow)是超弦理論的懷疑者,因?yàn)槠洳荒芴峁⿲?shí)驗(yàn)可檢驗(yàn)的預(yù)言。他曾經(jīng)試圖阻止超弦理論家進(jìn)入哈佛大學(xué)物理系,但是哈佛大學(xué)還是接受了超弦理論,于是他選擇了離開(kāi)。在約十分鐘《弦論這件事》(《優(yōu)雅的宇宙》第二部分)的采訪(fǎng)中,他認(rèn)為超弦是一門(mén)與物理沒(méi)有關(guān)系的學(xué)科,并且說(shuō):“...你可以把它稱(chēng)為腫瘤...”
