Phd Student Positions in Geotechnical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Position:
PhD student, successful applicants can come to Hong Kong and work as research assistant before normal entrance period.

Supervisor:
Dr. Andy Leung obtained his PhD degree from the University of Cambridge and is currently an associate professor at PolyU. His research interests are structure-soil-pile interaction, application of machine learning in geotechnical engineering, and spatial variability of soil properties. Qualifications:
Applicants should have
1) A master's or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering or other related subjects (geological/mining etc.), with a GPA higher than 80/100;
2) An overall score of at least 6.5 (at least 6 in writing) in the international English language testing system (IELTS); or a test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL) score of 80 (at least 23 in writing) or above for the internet-based test or 550 or above for the paper-based test. 3) Experience in data analysis, programming and publishing English research articles are considered as assets.
4) The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and good use of oral and written English.
* Applicants who do not meet qualification criteria 1 and 2 will not receive response.

Normal Period and Scholarship:
For applicants with a bachelor's degree, the normal study period is 4 years. For applicantswith a master's degree, the normal study period is 3 years. Successful applicants will receive scholarships (approx. hk$18,470). The department will also provide additional research and travel support and offer a range of professional development workshops and events for our PhD students. Outstanding candidates can also apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) (approx. hk$25,800/month). Please find more information at:

Research Assistant Position

The monthly salary is hk$16,000 or above. There is possibility of transferring to PhD program if considered good performance.
