METAL-CATALYZED C7-FUNCTIONALIZATION OF NAPHTHALENES VIA C-H ACTIVATION Keywords: C-H activation, catalysis, naphthalene Profile and skills required: The candidate should have a very strong background in organic chemistry and organometallic catalysis. Konwledge in analyticalchemistry (NMR, MS...) are also required. Project description: Catalysis is one of the fundamental pillars of the green chemistry and thus one of the most attractive fields in chemistry. Among this area, C-H activation has significantly grown in importance during the last decade. Indeed, the direct functionalization of C-H bond allows a fast access to complex molecules without the introduction of an activated group which is important from an atom economy point of view. However, due to the large number of C-H bonds in molecules, C-H activation strategies are often very challenging. Regarding naphthalene skeleton, several C-H bonds can be selectively functionalized. During our research program on C-H activation, we previously focused on the C8-H bond and some applications in natural product synthesis. In this PhD project, the objective will be to target the C7-H bond which has been very little studied. This work would open an access to polyfunctionalized naphthalenes.
