Position-1 Fixed term position (1-3 years), starting December 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter Location: Department of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry, Ghent University, Campus Sterre, Krijgslaan 281 ¨C S4, 9000 Gent, Belgium JOB DISCRIPTION We announce the availability of a full time postdoctoral position to strengthen the Organic Synthesis Research Group (https://www.OS.ugent.be). Successful candidates will be offered a one year sholarship at a competitive salary, as an employee of the Department of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry at Ghent University in Belgium (https://www.orgchem.ugent.be). The scholarship is renewable up to a maximum duration of 3 years in total. You will develop and subsequently apply new stereoselective methods for the synthesis of poly- and carbocyclic compounds. You will help coordinate research efforts of PhD students in the organic synthesis research group, as well as work on your own individual research lines. Target compounds include medicinally relevant heterocyclic scaffolds as well as selected polycyclic natural products. As a particular focus in these projects, dearomative cycloadditions will be targeted that can transform common (hetero)aromatic scaffolds into more interesting sp3-rich scaffolds. Last application date: Oct 22, 2021 23:59 (CET) Contract type: Limited duration scholarship (1-3 years) YOUR PROFILE - You should have a PhD degree in organic chemistry, with a specialty in organic synthesis. - The conditions of the fellowship stipulate that the PhD degree cannot be obtained at a Belgian university and the candidate cannot have resided in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years. - Y ou must have a strong background in compound purification techniques, and structural characterization of organic molecules with elements of stereochemistry. - Ideally, candidates for this position will have experience in cycloaddition or cascade cyclisation chemistry, stereoselective transition metal-catalyzed reactions, and/or natural compound synthesis. - You have a creative mind and are highly motivated to perform chemical reactions in the lab.
