The Optical Communications research group at Memorial University (Canada) has PhD and/or master’s student positions available. Candidates will work on research related to future optical communications systems, while drawing on tools from other fields such as machine learning and digital signal processing. More specifically, topics such as fiber nonlinearity compensation and optical performance monitoring will be investigated. The research will be carried out in collaboration with an industry partner, and the students will be part of a larger research group and work closely with both academic and industry researchers. Interested candidates should meet the following criteria: - Holding or expected to obtain a master’s/BSc degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other related disciplines. - Strong theoretical background in mathematics and analytical thinking. Background on optical communications, digital communications and/or machine learning is desirable. - Ability to pursue independent research, as well as work as part of a team. - A research record evidenced by publications (especially for PhD students). - Excellent written and communication skills in English. - Strong motivation to pursue graduate studies.
