研究計(jì)劃五部曲(3):學(xué)會(huì)自問自答research questions

提示:文章皆為原創(chuàng)。 我已加入“維權(quán)騎士”的版權(quán)保護(hù)計(jì)劃,版權(quán)所有,未經(jīng)作者允許禁止轉(zhuǎn)載,違者必究。 前面幾周更新了研究計(jì)劃五部曲中的前兩部: 研究計(jì)劃五部曲(1):成也Introduction,敗也Introduction 研究計(jì)劃五部曲(2):極易忽視的文獻(xiàn)綜述 好多蟲友也是一直在線催更,所以今天更新第三部曲~ 海外博士申請(qǐng)研究計(jì)劃的第三個(gè)核心:Research questions(研究問題),顧名思義,是指你的研究計(jì)劃中需要研究的問題。Research questions雖然在整個(gè)RP中所占的字?jǐn)?shù)不多,卻決定你的introduction 如何展開,literature review 的覆蓋面以及圍繞著這些問題將使用的methodology。 區(qū)區(qū)5-10個(gè)左右的問題,往往是教授審核的appetizer,決定他們是否會(huì)吃你這道m(xù)ain course。 那么這道appetizer如何來體現(xiàn)學(xué)術(shù)素養(yǎng)呢? 同樣,按照慣例,這里先列出幾個(gè)評(píng)判research questions的標(biāo)準(zhǔn): ◆ 表述是否清晰? ◆ 是否符合邏輯并且有說服力? ◆ 話題是否過于寬泛? 案例如下: Main Research Questions There are three research questions that my proposed research examines. The first research question is that “What is the value of adopting temporary urban intervention as a redevelopment tool in historic streetscape conservation?” This question aims to XXXXXXXX. Based on its value, the second question asks “What is the specific problems that temporary urban interventions strive to resolve?” The research would examine the XXXXXXXX in certain realities. Following that, the third research question is that “How traditional up-down conservation tools and bottom-up temporary urban interventions could collaborate to strengthen each other?” This research will evaluate XXXXXXXXX. Meanwhile, it will also address how XXXXXX practices can enhance temporary XXXXX by identifying their common values and stakeholders. 點(diǎn)評(píng): ◆ 本例中的research questions 冗長(zhǎng)而且不明晰。在書寫research questions 的時(shí)候,建議用bullet point 的形式單獨(dú)列出每一條問題,而不是把問題和內(nèi)容堆在一起形成一個(gè)chunk. 雖然這看起來只是一個(gè)表現(xiàn)形式的問題,但恰恰這種表現(xiàn)形式?jīng)Q定了教授閱讀的前幾十秒是否會(huì)產(chǎn)生繼續(xù)閱讀的欲望; ◆ 3個(gè)research questions 過于寬泛,可能導(dǎo)致research proposal 的研究無意義,甚至邏輯上不成立。越具體的research questions 反而越能體現(xiàn)作者對(duì)于該領(lǐng)域和專業(yè)的深入研究以及思考; ◆ 語言表達(dá)和思維習(xí)慣偏中式,會(huì)引起閱讀障礙。 修改后如下: ◆ What is the significance of XXXXX as a redevelopment tool in XXXX conservation both in XXXX and XXXX ? ◆ What are the specific problems that XXXX face in its XXXXX projects? ◆ How do traditional up-down conservation tools and bottom-up temporary urban interventions collaborate to strengthen each other in both XXX and XXXX ? Specifically, how traditional XXXX practices can enhance XXXX by identifying their common values and stakeholders? ◆ What causes the different practices in the XXXX conservation in XXX and XXX ? Will the differences in social, cultural, institutional and political context influence the practices? 點(diǎn)評(píng): ◆ 經(jīng)過修改后,research questions 在布局上更加簡(jiǎn)單明了,方便讀者一眼抓住中心; ◆ 整合了原文中的research questions 的邏輯,具體化題目的范圍,讓研究問題更有重點(diǎn); ◆ 拓展了研究層面,不僅僅從專業(yè)技術(shù)角度進(jìn)行研究,更拓展到了文化、社會(huì)、制度層面的探討,深化研究意義。 當(dāng)然, research questions也是對(duì)你英語寫作能力,以及學(xué)術(shù)思維嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)性的一個(gè)體現(xiàn)。 我們?cè)賮砜匆焕?/b> This proposed doctoral project aims to investigate XXXXXXXX. ◆ RQ1: What is the relationship between Chinese kinship support and students’ XXXX? ◆ RQ2: What are the differences between the support of both Chinese parents and other relatives in XXXXX for students with or without their siblings? ◆ RQ3: How does Chinese-characterised kinship influence students’ academic self-efficacy? 點(diǎn)評(píng): ◆ Q1表意模糊:例如關(guān)于kinship support 是否有確定的定義?kinship 的范圍什么? 在該研究中,如何定義kinship support 及范圍? ◆ Q2歧義多多:該問題是想研究parents 與relatives 的不同,還是想研究有兄弟姐妹的學(xué)生和獨(dú)生子女的不同? ◆ Q3定義不清:具體什么是Chinese-characterised kinship? 本研究中將如何定義此類的kinship? 是否與常規(guī)的定義不同?如果是,原因是什么? 作為在學(xué)術(shù)界里摸爬滾打了多年的教授們一眼便可看出你的思維嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)性和學(xué)術(shù)潛能。所以在開始寫RP之前,多花時(shí)間去思考自己的research questions, 不斷去細(xì)化和具象化你的研究問題,其余部分都圍繞這些問題展開,自然水到渠成。 之后將繼續(xù)探討五部曲的第四部:讓你頭痛的methodologies,敬請(qǐng)期待~ |
