Postdoc position in Med Chem, McGill University, Canada
|
|
Position: Postdoctoral fellow in Medicinal Chemistry, under the supervision of Dr. Jian Hui Wu, Lady Davis Institute, McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Project description: Our laboratory is interested in identification and optimization of novel inhibitors against cancer targets. As a key member of our team, the candidate is expected to chemically optimize the initial active compounds. We routinely utilize structure-based approaches to identify top-ranking analogues to be synthesized. Our laboratory includes three components: structure-based drug design, Medicinal chemistry and biological evaluations. The funded projects are as follows: 1) Postdoc position 1: The start time is OCT, 2020. This funded project is to develop novel inhibitors of RanGTPase for ovarian cancer. Our preliminary work has discovered initial hits as novel inhibitors of RanGTPase, which are selectively active against the ovarian cancer cells, with no obvious effects on normal cells. 2) Postdoc position 2: The start time is NOV, 2020. This funded project is to develop novel modulators of Keap1/Nrf2 protein-protein interaction for lung cancer. Keap1 is an endogenous inhibitor of Nrf2. In normal cells, complexation of Keap1 with Nrf2 lead to Nrf2 degradation, resulting in basal level of Nrf2. However, mutation in Keap1 leads to Keap1 mutant that is unable to form a complex with Nrf2, resulting in high level of Nrf2 in cancer cells, which confer drug resistance in cancer patients. Our project is to discover compounds that could repair the interaction of Keap1 mutant with Nrf2, with a view to selectively suppressing Nrf2 level in cancer cells, which subsequently sensitize cancer cells to cancer treatment. We have already discovered initial hits that are selectively active against the Keap1 mutants, which are found in cancer cells, but have no effect on the wild-type Keap1, that are found in normal cells. Qualifications: We are looking for someone who is interested in anticancer drug discovery. The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry, which was obtained in 2018 or later.
